CONSENT is being sought for 10m by 4m marquee to be put up for a day in Holbeach Park Road cemetery, but some parish councillors are worried about pegs disturbing consecrated ground.

Coun Jenny Worth sought permission for the marquee on behalf of a committee holding a heritage open day on Sunday, September 11 and said it is needed because one member has a lot of photographs to display.

Coun Worth told the parish council: “The idea of the day is to get people down there. I think a lot of people in Holbeach don’t even know where the chapels are.”

Council chairman Coun Rita Rudkin said: “It’s all consecrated ground. I think it is going to be very difficult to find an area where it is not at risk.”

The council agreed in principle to the request but decided to leave the final say with Coun Terry Harrington, who said he would first study a map of grave sites.
