Boston’s Pilgrim Hospital today (Wednesday) opened one ward and expects to open another three on Saturday after six wards were closed due to the winter vomiting bug, norovirus.

But restrictions on visiting the hospital are still in place – anyone wishing to visit a friend or relative is asked to contact the ward via the switchboard on 01205 364801.

United Linciolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust medical director Dr Suneil Kapadia said: “Our staff are working incredibly hard to contain the outbreak and support patients and families.

“I’d also like to thank all of those people who have stayed away from hospital.”

The virus triggers sudden nausea, followed by projectile vomiting, and diarrhoea.

“It’s really important to make sure that we protect vulnerable patients and staff,” said Dr Kapadia.
