VOLUNTEERS behind a new support group for dementia sufferers and carers are delighted after its successful launch in Holbeach this week.

About 35 people came to a coffee morning and afternoon tea at Holbeach Youth Centre to launch the group, LPPG Outreach, set up by Littlebury Patient Participation Group.

Several dementia sufferers and their carers attended the launch, as well as Holbeach county councillor Nick Worth who presented volunteers with a certificate from Lincolnshire County Council which gave £1,000 towards setiing up the group.

Joan Woolard, an LPPG committee member, said: “The launch went very well, it was very well-attended and we were quite surprised by the reaction of people who came.

“We had several people with dementia who came and they were very enthusiastic about the group.

“They want to come again and we’re encouraged to go forward.”

The group meets again at Holbeach Youth Centre on August 20 and for more details, contact Joan Woolard on 01406 426508 or Rita Mitchell on 01406 424861.
