Emergency response medical charity LIVES has had a £2,000-plus donation to buy an inflatable marquee for delivering life-saving training such as CPR and providing first aid cover at events.

The donation, which also covers the cost of a generator for inflating the marquee, came from horticultural distribution company TransFlor Ltd, based in Donington Road, Bicker.

Its boss, managing director Neil Dobney, said: “The fact that the LIVES personnel can literally be the difference between life and death and that these guys do everything on a voluntary basis totally humbles me.

“Having to beg or borrow items to do events should not be their first concern, which is why TransFlor Ltd is more than happy to donate the marquee and generator that the group desperately needs to continue their fundraising and awareness programmes.

“I think it’s fantastic what they do on a voluntary basis and I think people should support them where they can.”

Mr Dobney has family and friends living on the patch as well as 40 employees who might one day need help from LIVES and says the company’s donation was a “no brainer”.

The marquee was unveiled for the first time on Saturday and representatives from TransFlor were invited to join the LIVES team to see it at the Flinders Founders Field in Donington.

Adrian Hern, LIVES area co-ordinator for Donington and Bicker, said his group provides first aid cover at events and the marquee will be used for that as well as for delivering training, raising awareness of LIVES and recruitment.

He sent out a marketing letter to businesses on the patch and was bowled over when TransFlor stepped in with such a big donation.

Mr Hern said: “It’s the first marquee of its kind that LIVES has ever had so it’s quite a big thing for us”.
