THE brilliant palliative care a colleague was given prompted a great sponsored walk around Spalding by QV Foods employees and friends.

After payroll manager Ray Smith died three years ago, his workmates at the Holbeach Hurn factory wanted to do something for Macmillan Cancer Support which had helped look after him.

Last Sunday’s 12.58-mile walk around the Spalding Leisure Mile was their tribute.

And it was so successful, raising approximately £1,100 with everyone going the distance, that the aim is to repeat this first walk every year.

Organiser Peppa Saunders, who works in management accounts at QV, said: “We’re not regular walkers at all but Ray’s widow Angela is a rambler and she suggested the route we took, which worked out really well.

“Not everyone on the walk works at QV Foods.

“We were joined by other friends who had their own reasons for wanting to support Macmillan.”

The 20-plus sponsored walkers set off on the circular walk at 10am and got back around 5pm, with two rest stops of about an hour at pubs along the way.
