PINCHBECK Guides are celebrating after receiving a £250 donation towards the cost of a new mess tent.

Their 24ft by 14ft tent allows them to eat together and socialise when camping, but it is almost worn out.

The 1st Pinchbeck St Mary’s Guide Unit leader, Jane Amess, said the Guides are grateful for the donation from county councillor Steve Williams and they will carry on fundraising to meet the £900 cost of a replacement tent.

Coun Williams also gave £500 donations to West Pinchbeck Village Hall, for repairs to the driveway to the hall, and to Pinchbeck Carnival Committee.

He has also earmarked around £500 to give to Deeping St Nicholas WI to help members buy a new projector.

The money has come from Lincolnshire County Council’s Big Society Fund, which allows each councillor to donate £2,000 to good causes.

Coun Williams said: “We didn’t take any increases in allowances this year or last year and we decided to have some of that money for our Big Society Fund.”
