Bosses at Baytree Owl and Wildlife Centre are devastated following the theft of an iconic Great Grey owl, Kevin, who was set to be the star of their public flying displays this year.
The break-in at the owl centre, part of Baytree Nurseries and Garden Centre at Weston, was discovered on Tuesday morning.
Owl centre manager Mark Birdsall said it appears someone climbed over a fence before breaking into the centre and entering Kevin’s aviary.
Police are investigating and anyone who can help them find Kevin safe and well is asked to call them on 101.
Mark has devoted five months to training Kevin to be the star of the popular flying displays, and says he’s already an iconic owl because he was bred at the centre eight years ago and hundreds of visitors have had their photographs taken with him.
He said: “Needless to say we are all gutted and shocked that this has happened.
“I trained Kevin and he was going to be a massive part of our displays this year, but this has all gone to pot.
“The police have been informed and we keep our fingers crossed that he is found safe and well.”
