UP and coming singer/songwriter Max Gilkes wowed the audience at an intimate gig in Gosberton Risegate.

Max, who is touring with his all-star band to promote his new album Walk in this Direction, was supported by rising talent Joanne-Louise Parker.

The gig, which was held at the Black Horse, was organised by local music producer Liz Lenten, of Scarlet Records.

For the last three years Max has worked as a session player, producer, and co-writer with artists ranging from John Leckie to Lily Allen and from Renee Zellweger to Peter Andre.

For the last two years Max has been writing and recording this debut solo album and his recent performing career has seen him share stages with Eddie Reader, Sixpence None the Richer, Thomas Dolby, Ocean Colour Scene and Nerina Pallot.

Max performs both solo (acoustic) and with his band, including bassist Paul Powell, who has played with Paul Weller, Aztec Camera and Bros, Adam King on drums and percussion, who has performed with Jason Mraz and Steve Allsworth on guitars, who has played with Ronan Keating, Leanne Rimes and Rod Stewart.

Liz said: “It was a fantastic night – Max and Joanne both played great live sets to an appreciative audience and the Black Horse proved to be a wonderful venue with fabulous food!

“We’ll definitely be putting on more live music nights there soon.”
