GUARDIAN ANGEL: The latest from our girl about town

We have had – and will hopefully have again – some glorious autumn weather that has really shown the colours of the season in a perfect light. It was one one of these perfect autumn days that Angel, on one of her regular strolls, spotted cyclamen growing wild along the Coronation Channel in Spalding. What a lovely sighting.

* Angel wishes all those children awaiting their 11+ results on Saturday the best of luck. She knows of two little girls who are very nervous at the moment and is sure countless others are feeling the same.

* How not to compliment someone: Angel’s Editor knew his wife was going to a Seventies evening on Friday but soon bitterly regretted assuming it was fancy dress when he complimented her on looking “ideal for the decade”. Whoops.

* The weather forecast is looking good for Friday, which means – for the umpteenth year – we should have a dry Pumpkin Festival in Spalding.

If you’ve not been before, it’s well worth a visit, with lots of activities, great entertainment and some wonderful street food. And it’s free!

* Angel is delighted to see that there will be a Tulip Queen competition once again this year. Last year’s Queen, Amy Cook, really threw herself into things, carrying out several official duties during her year, and Angel thinks the crowning of the new Queen will be one of the highlights of the Christmas Lights switch-on in Spalding.
