STREET party planners celebrating the royal wedding are not allowing a small faction of dissenters to stop the festivities from going ahead at Gedney Hill.

The party will go on, is the message from Gedney Hill Primary School PTA, who feared their plans for the royal wedding celebrations would come to nothing when a letter from Lincolnshire County Council announced that a licence for the street closure had been withdrawn.

The county council felt local residents had not been properly consulted, something the organisers had admitted when seeking permission, and yet had received the licence to go ahead.

However, party plans had to be altered when objections from a couple of residents forced the council to withdraw permission, and now the celebrations will take place within the school grounds instead.

PTA member Chris Hewitt said: “We just wanted people to know because I have had people on the phone very upset when I told them it wasn’t on.

“We are not going to let them get us down and it is continuing at the school.

“We were so upset but we have to carry on and we have now got a new lease of life.

“We want everyone to join us.

“We want this to be a community event.”

Proceedings kick off at 3pm next Friday with fish and chips and ice cream vans dishing out food, as well as cakes and a disco.

nA Weston children’s home has also announced its plans to host a garden party for the royal wedding.

Direct Care’s Beacon Farmhouse home, in Wiseman’s Gate, hopes people will go along on the day and take a look at the work it does as part of its drive for sponsorship for education for its 11-18 year olds.

The home helps children who are referred and placed by social services due to a breakdown in their family or home life.

The party starts at 2pm and the children are planning to make and decorate cakes for the occasion.
