South Holland and The Deepings MP John Hayes swapped the suits of government for the whites of cricket gear in Moulton over the bank holiday weekend.
The match-up between a Lords and Commons XI, featuring Mr Hayes and other East Midlands MPs, taking on the Irregulars at Moulton Harrox Cricket Ground drew more than 100 spectators who were later treated to a hog roast. More than £500 was raised for charities in the area and even though his team lost by just three runs, Mr Hayes said: “It was a really good day and the match was very close. “My batting performance was mainly a defensive one but I took a wicket with my offspin bowling which I was very pleased about.
“This was the 14th year of organising the match and over that time, we’ve raised more than £15,000 for local charities.
“In the past we’ve supported John Harrox Primary School, Moulton Mill and Headway, a charity for people with brain injuries which I have a long association with.
“In due time, we’ll sit down and work out who we’re going to support this year.”
