Deepings Raft Race chair Richard Ash and Phil Chapple, Greg Roffe, Angus Wilmot and (front, right) Jamie Shuttleworth present radios to Kevin Dixon of the Red Cross.

The committee had spent £1,800 on the new radios for Red Cross members attending the raft race to ensure they could stay in contact with one another and deal with emergencies swiftly.

At the 2001 event, a member of the Red Cross saved the life of a man who suffered a heart attack with the use of a defibrilator and committee chairman Richard Ash was full of praise for the work of the first aiders.
