Friends of a long serving tractor driver gave him a surprise send off after their annual winter road run.

The Fenlanders’ Christmas Road Run saw owners of vintage and modern tractors take to the back roads surrounding Holbeach – starting from Hazelwood Lane and ending, after 13 miles, at the United Services Club in Holbeach.

The event attracted 16 enthusiasts and was held on December 29 – the same day as participant Fred Lee celebrated his 65th birthday.

Fred was also marking his retirement on the day – having worked as a tractor driver for AH Worth and Co for more than 30 years.

As a surprise Fred’s friends had baked him a retirement/birthday cake and presented it to him at a buffet lunch at the services club before helping him to celebrate the occasion.
