It was his godfather’s 25-year career of life-saving and community service that inspired Spalding teenager Frazer Town’s dream to become a firemen.

That dream has now taken a huge step forward after Frazer (18), of Campion Close, was presented with this year’s Young Person’s Achievement Award by Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue.

A member of Boston Young Firefighters for almost four years, Frazer was nominated for his enthusiasm and knowledge in helping other people, following in the footsteps of his godfather Martin Nutman, of Boston, who retired earlier this year.

Frazer said: “I applied for a job with Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue and got a letter back which said I had been successfully nominated for the Young Person’s Achievement Award by my supervisors in Boston.

“On the awards night in Lincoln, I was nervous and excited because the only awards I had gained in the past was with the scouts in Pinchbeck.

“When I joined the Young Firefighters, I wasn’t as self-confident as I am now but I’ve picked up new skills, made new friends and I’ve gone from being a fire cadet to crew manager and watch manager in just a few years.”
