KERRY Group bosses have apologised for an oversight that led to its Spalding factory failing to pay £186,000 in business rates.
South Holland District Council took Kerry Foods to court last week and won a liability order.
The group’s director of corporate affairs, Frank Hayes, says the company will pay straight away.
Speaking on Tuesday, Mr Hayes said: “We have been in touch with the council today to apologise for this matter and we will address this immediately and make sure that all payments that are due will be paid immediately.
“This is something that should not have happened.
“This just escaped our attention on site because we have brought in a new centralised payment system and regrettably it didn’t pick up the direct debits which were due on this account.”
Council finance portfolio holder Paul Przyszlak said: “We welcome the company’s statement and the apology it has issued. We accept mistakes are made but this case serves to highlight the fact that we will continue to take swift action against all those who do not fulfil their commitments to the council tax payer on time.”
