CCTV volunteer, Clarke Converse, is departing from Spalding Police Station after six years of service.

Mr Converse, originally from Massachusetts, is leaving his position to retire in Florida with his wife due to medical reasons.

After volunteering at the station since 2008, on Monday he was presented with a number of leaving gifts from both staff at the station and members of the local shoplifting prevention scheme, ShopWatch.

Not only was he given a card signed by all those at ShopWatch by Julie Grant, but he was presented by Inspector Jim Tyner with a mounted Lincolnshire Police badge engraved with the phrase “One of the team”.

He was also gifted with a framed photo of the team at Spalding and an Amazon gift voucher.

A former member of the air force, Clarke said he was leaving with mixed emotions; while looking forward to returning to America, especially his homeward journey on the Queen Mary, he admitted that he would miss Spalding and all the people he had worked with.

He vowed, however, to keep in contact with the friends he had made in England via social media.
