PEOPLE dumping bags of rubbish in Holbeach are being warned that they will be prosecuted if caught.
Fly tipping is becoming an issue in the town with hot spots at the junction of Green Lane and Chappell Street and in Back Lane behind the parish council office.
The matter was raised at the June meeting of Holbeach Parish Council when chairman Coun Rita Rudkin suggested sending a letter to residents in the Green Lane area to make them aware of the problem and ask them to keep an eye open for anyone committing the offence.
Coun Jayne Cornwell asked whether dumping garden rubbish qualified as flytipping and was told that it does.
She said: “A lot of people in Holbeach Hurn are dumping garden rubbish under the hedgerows and they need to be made aware that this is flytipping.”
Coun Rudkin said it’s very hard to track down those people to go along under the cover of darkness and dump their rubbish but Coun Peter Savory suggested reporting it to South Holland District Council which has people who go through the bags looking for names and addresses so that culprits can be prosecuted.
Coun Terry Harrington said bags being dumped near the office reflect badly on the parish council as residents think they are responsible for the mess.
