A FANTASTIC opportunity for young musicians in the district to play on a big stage takes place on Wednesday when South Holland Centre hosts a Support Act Competition.

Bands and musicians aged 25 or under can compete to be the warm up act for 2012 British Blues Awards winner Chantel McGregor, who is appearing in concert at the centre on Wednesday, October 24.

In keeping with Chantel’s style of music, each act entering the competition needs to have rehearsed two bluesy numbers or songs they think will suit her and her audience – and be prepared to go head-to-head with other musicians.

The winner, decided by a panel of judges, will go on to support Chantel’s gig.

Ellie Rudd, representing the centre, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for young musicians to play on the main stage, supporting a professional act. It was not long ago Chantel was an emerging musician herself. Young musicians should just come and give it a go and have fun on the night. You never know where it could lead.”
