ON-CALL firefighters would have had to make a mad dash away from their make-shift car wash on Saturday if a 999 call had come in.
But all was quiet and they were able to stick to the task of washing cars at Springfields, Spalding, and raised £457.80 for The Firefighters’ Charity.
Eight firefighters from Spalding and two from Boston washed around 120 cars with the help of fire engine hoses and good old fashioned elbow grease.
Spalding watch manager Nigel Woods said: “We had two fire engines on site and they were on call all day if they were required for an emergency, but luckily enough they weren’t required.”
Donations ranged from £2 to £10 and every penny raised will help injured firefighters and their families.
