Fingers crossed for sun as beer festival gets underway

THE beer is barrelled, the bands are booked – all that’s needed is the sunshine and the Deepings Beer Festival will have it all.

The festival takes place at Deepings Rugby Club, starting from 3pm on Friday, and promises a great time for all

There will be more than 70 real ales, traditional scrumpy ciders, country wines and possibly some speciality lagers for festival-goers to sample and every year the organisers select the best in local bands to perform and the music plays all weekend.

This year music will be provided by The Aaron Van Beeken Band (AVB), Bondy, Slide To Open, The Molegrips, The Little Dave Band, Midnight and The Blue, Citizen Smith and Lee Major.

The event is run by volunteers from the rugby club and entry is £2, which covers your glass and an official festival guide.

Every year a charity receives a donation from the entry fees and this year’s charity is LIVES.

The main club bar is open all weekend for regular beer, spirits and soft drinks and hot food is available.

The festival runs from 3pm to 11pm on Friday, and from noon to 11pm on Saturday.

There will be big television screens showing the Olympic opening ceremony on Friday.

Other attractions include fairground rides and stalls, a Pimms tent for the ladies and discount taxi fares to get drinkers home safely.
