Last year’s Oscar winner for Best Director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (Birdman) tries to finally help Leo DiCaprio snag his prized gong – and after notching Golden Globe awards in their respective categories this week they’re off to a good start.

Based on true events, DiCaprio stars as legendary explorer Hugh Glass – headlining an expedition of the unchartered American frontier wilderness in the 1820s – who sets out on a path of vengeance against his hunting team after they left him for dead following a bear mauling.

In a quest to survive, Glass endures unimaginable grief – as well as the betrayal of his confidant John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy) – and navigates a vicious winter to try to make it back to his family, and ultimately find redemption.

Domhnall Gleeson (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Will Poulter (The Maze Runner) co-star in what is expected to be the Academy Award favourite in multiples categories – particularly after garnering the Golden Globe for Best Film in a Drama this week as well.
