The Umbrella in Westlode Street, Spalding, normally the preserve of the town’s youngsters, is facing a takeover from people of a more vintage age.

A brand new social club for the over 50s has been meeting at The Umbrella for the past month, on Fridays between 10am and 1pm.

The Ever Young Club gives elderly people the opportunity to feel included, valued and respected through activities such as snooker, exercise, films and computing.

Club leader Danielle Parkin said: “There aren’t many places for the over 50s to go to and when we researched it, there was nothing we could find for the older generation in Spalding.

“The Ever Young Club is an opportunity for anyone aged over 50 to meet once a week, make new friends, learn new skills and have fun.

“Its aim is to bring our community together by providing weekly activities that will improve club members’ quality of life and influence its future.”

On Friday, club members were treated to a pampering session by students from Boston College, Spalding, and an Easter party has been lined up for tomorrow before the club has a week off because of Good Friday.

Danielle said: “It’s been fabulous and the numbers are increasing each week.”
