Place for dogs to meet
There’s an awful lot of socialising goes on at the Moulton Seas End Village Hall – particularly among dogs and their owners who belong to Boston Canine Society.
The club got its name because its founder came from Boston and meetings were once held there, but for the past 25 years or so Pat Dufty from Quadring Eaudyke has been organising sessions as secretary.
She said: “The club is open to anyone who wants to bring their dogs for socialising or training. The dogs learn to mix with each other and be handled by different people, so they learn manners really, so when they see another dog they are not barking their heads off.”
Good manners are required of the 1,500 dogs who will be entering classes each day at the show organised by Boston Canine Society at the East of England Showground at Peterborough on January 11, 12 and 13.
Pat and the team organise two big shows a year that are open to any dog, one at Newark that attracts just over 1,000 dogs, and the Peterborough one that has 4,000 entrants all together.
One reason for the club moving to Moulton Seas End is that Pat and the team found halls in Boston were not dog friendly.
She says: “It’s a sad fact with dogs that a lot of people don’t want them. The committee of people who run the hall at Moulton Seas End don’t object to the dogs.”
