Local vegetable grower Produce World knows a recent harvest will go to feed the hungry and those who need it most.

The company, which has a site in Sutton Bridge, allowed ‘gleaners’ to enter some of its fields to collect leftover crops.

A team of volunteers from Gleaning Network UK picked cauliflowers after the harvest, gathering what had been left because it did not meet a graded standard.

A company spokesman said: “We believe that through this activity we have donated one and a half tonnes of brassicas – approximately 18,750 portions for the hungry and food insecure.”

The produce will be distributed to food charities, homeless centres and soup kitchens.
