Promise to clear up town fly-tipping spot

ACTION has been promised to clean up a regular fly-tipping spot.

The official rubbish collection point for residents in Gore Lane, Spalding, has become a magnet for unscrupulous people looking to get rid of a variety of rubbish including computer monitors, old vacuum cleaners and televisions, as well as general litter.

South Holland district councillor Roger Gambba-Jones, who holds the portfolio for waste management, has said he will look into the problem, but reminded the public that they need to be the council’s eyes and ears to report fly-tipping.

He said: “We do need to be told of these spots before we can do anything about them.

“This one in Gore Lane is a recurring problem and we have sent out multi-lingual leaflets to people living in the area reminding them of the rules around putting out their domestic waste as if it is put out too early it does give a green light for other dumping.

“It’s the same old story of rubbish attracting more rubbish.”

The Lincoinshire Free Press reported the latest incident of fly-tipping to the council on Friday and was told the spot would hopefully be cleared within two or three days.

To report fly-tipping call 01775 761161.
