Mosaics commemorating the Olympic Torch passing through South Holland are to be installed in Spalding, Whaplode and Long Sutton.

South Holland District Council’s planning committee consented to the authority’s own application for free standing mosaics next to the public toilets on Sheep Market, Spalding, in front of Whaplode Village Hall on Kirkgate and at the junction of Bridge Road and Wisbech Road.

The committee also passed a district council application for installation of 60 energy efficient, electric oil-filled radiators to replace the existing heating system at Spalding’s grade one listed Ayscoughfee Hall.

Coun Rita Rudkin said: “Having been to Ayscoughfee many times, and on occasion been extremely cold, I am very happy to move this recommendation.”
