Hotel to have three turbines

THREE 20m high wind turbines are to be sited at Springfields Retail Outlet in Spalding to provide electricity for the 43-bedroom hotel.

The helical wind turbines stand five metres high and will be mounted on columns 15 metres high at the back of the earth mound fronting the A16 bypass.

The hotel was given planning consent in 2006 with South Holland District Council imposing a condition that ten per cent of its power should come from a renewable source.

Planning consent for the turbines has now been finalised in line with the condition.

Shopping centre spokeswoman Tracey Turnell said the wind turbines will be installed later this year but no date has yet been fixed.

She said: “They will be something to be quite proud of. We hope they will be unusual, stylish as well as functional.”
