Deeping St Nicholas farmer Nicholas Watts captured this stunning image looking over the river Welland towards Crowland Abbey last Tuesday morning.

He took the photograph at the exact moment the sun could be seen through the window in the abbey’s ruined west front.

The image prompted thoughts of weather sayings, and Nicholas mused: “Of course a red sky in the morning is a shepherd’s warning of bad weather coming, and there is also a saying, ‘Rain in the east 24 hours at least’, and that’s exactly what happened last Wednesday.”
