Young freelance stockwoman Emma Benje, who helps Tommy Charlton with his Lincoln Reds at Moulton Chapel, has a bright future.

Emma (22) has come home from the Great Yorkshire Show with rosettes for winning the two-year-old heifer class, best female in show and the best Lincoln Red in the show, beating the bulls.

Tommy, who sold Rufus to Emma as a year-old heifer, said: “It was her first showing because she’s only got two Lincoln Red animals.

“Since January, she’s been coming once a week to help me get these animals ready and she goes to the shows with me.

“Like her, I was very pleased. She deserved it.”

In the same show, Tommy got a second in the cow and calf class, for his little bull Tommy, and sixth in the inter-breed competition. Then, in the Housewives’ Choice, he got a fourth for his Tour de France get-up.

Emma proved her usefulness at the show, trimming three Longhorn cattle that went on to win second places.
