Algarkirk farm shop offers traceability

The horsemeat scandal may do farmers a good turn in the long run as consumers demand more British food on supermarket shelves.

The NFU reports that more than 86 per cent of shoppers want to buy more traceable food that has been produced on British farms, something that farmers Henny and James Pinchin are also hearing at their farm shop at Algarkirk where they sell their own-grown lamb, beef and, occasionally, pork.

Henny said: “Our customers know what they are getting. We have near enough 100 per cent traceability. At the end of the day if you buy a burger for 20p you can’t expect any meat in it. I think customers have been fooled by supermarkets for an awfully long time.”
