FAMILIES in South Holland could be missing out on vital grants which could help ease winter heating bills.
The money, available under the Government’s Warm Front scheme, has been set aside to help poorer households install insulation and draft proofing, and improve out-of-date heating systems.
Homeowners on certain income-related benefits can claim up to £3,500 from the scheme or up to £6,000 if they use oil central heating or an equivalent alternative technology.
Manager of Spalding-based Rix Petroleum (Ltd), Robin Exley, says millions of pounds remain unclaimed as the scheme underspent last year, meaning hundreds of families could be missing out on money that is rightfully theirs.
Mr Exley said: “There is a lot of money left in the pot and if it doesn’t get spent it may just go back to the Treasury to be used in other budgets, which means few people will have seen the benefit of the scheme.
“But, with autumn upon us, and temperatures starting to fall, not is the time to apply.”
Anyone who thinks they may qualify should go to the Warm Front website or get in touch with Citizens’ Advice Bureau which can help with filling in the application form.
Mr Exley added: “It really doesn’t take a lot to find out if you are eligible for a grant and it is really worth doing.
“After all, it could be the difference between a chilly winter and a cosy one.”
