A primary school due to open in Spalding in September has a new headteacher.
Annabel O’Connell (33) is currently part of the leadership team at Boston’s Staniland Academy, which was steered out of special measures to an Ofsted “outstanding” – the education inspectorate’s top category.
The mother of two, from Wigtoft, was chosen for the post due to her wealth of teaching and leadership experience.
Mrs O’Connell told the Spalding Guardian: “I am both honoured and incredibly excited to be in the position of creating a brand new school for the Spalding community.”
Her priorities now include engaging with nurseries, parents and stakeholders to help shape the future of the £3million school, which is still under construction.
Wygate Park Academy comes under the wing of The Boston Witham Academies Foundation under the leadership of executive headteacher Adrian Reed.
Mr Reed said: “Mrs O’Connell’s appointment has been of vital importance. As an outstanding practitioner and Key Stage 1 and Foundation specialist I know that children joining the new school in September will thrive under her leadership on a daily basis.”
Wygate Park Academy will open with a staff of eight and an intake of reception pupils.
