For more than 20 years, Ann Tilbury has been a constant presence for students and staff in the science department at Spalding High School.

Whether it is organising practical work for classes, ordering equipment for the school’s laboratories or lending a listening ear to hear the worries and concerns of new teachers, Mrs Tilbury’s contribution to school life has been described as “irreplaceable”.

In every respect, Mrs Tilbury was a worthy winner of the Support Staff Award at last year’s Lincolnshire Free Press and Spalding Guardian Education Awards.

After receiving her award, Mrs Tilbury said: “I usually prefer to be in the background, but I accept this award on behalf of all of the other technicians who do a fantastic job.

“Spalding High School has been a lovely place to work and the Support Staff Award is definitely the high spot of my career so far.”

The Spalding Guardian, sponsors of the Support Staff Award, is once again looking for someone who helps a school to run smoothly, without disruption to teaching and learning in a safe and enjoyable environment.

“Support staff are so important and many go above and beyond, which is why we are so delighted to sponsor this award,” said Guardian editor Jeremy Ransome.
