Gedney Church End Primary School enjoyed celebrations complete with traditional food and fun activities for Chinese New Year.

Thanks to food donations from Tesco, brought in by Tesco’s of Holbeach community leader Becky Wellard, pupils could sample traditional Chinese foods, such as egg noodles, duck and vegetable spring rolls and sweet and sour chicken.

Administrator of the school, Carla Matson, said: “It really was a lovely day, so many children hadn’t tried Chinese food before so they were learning about a different culture at the end of the day.”

Other activities included making fortune packets and Chinese dragons, making cherry blossom using pink tissue paper and learning about what Chinese New Year is through literacy work.

The event was held all day and enjoyed by both staff and students.

Surfleet Primary School also made merry by tucking into Chinese food and making Year of the Monkey masks.
