Eighteen-year-old Charlie Gaunt has been named Apprentice of the Year in the Skills Awards 2013.
Charlie, a production horticultural apprentice at Wyeplants Limited in Spalding, was the winner in the Agriculture, Horticulture and Animal Care category.
Lorna Howitt, of Spalding Horticultural Training Group, the training provider responsible for the apprenticeship programme Charlie is following said: “I am really pleased and proud of Charlie and the effort he has put into his apprenticeship and additional training.
“He has worked hard with his employer Wyeplants Limited in Spalding and they recognise the value of taking on local young people. They are the future of our industry. Charlie has worked hard since joining us after leaving school two years ago and has now progressed to the Advanced Apprentice stage currently working towards a Level 3 Diploma in production horticulture.
“He is an excellent example of what can be achieved by young people who follow a work-based pathway in their learning and skills development.”
The Skills Awards, organised by the Lincolnshire & Rutland Employment and Skills Board, celebrate the commitment of individuals and organisations that are passionate about skills development and vocational work-based learning.
Winners were announced at a gala night in Lincoln.
