Children and staff at Wygate Foundation Nursery School, Spalding, nominated for the Small Employer of the Year Award at the 2014 Lincolnshire and Rutland Skills Awards.

Wygate Foundation Nursery School in Spalding has been recognised for its commitment to training and apprenticeships.

The nursery in Woolram Wygate, which has about 75 children aged between two and four, was a finalist in the Small Employer of the Year category at the 2014 Lincolnshire and Rutland Skills Awards, run by the area’s Employment and Skills Board.

During an awards ceremony at Butlins Skegness, staff from the nursery were presented with a certificate for its training programmes and apprenticeships for people keen to follow a career in childcare.

Nursery manager Anne Campbell said: “We were nominated by Children’s Links, a charity that provides training for people who come to us to work and gain childcare qualifications.

“Historically, we’ve had quite a few members of staff who have qualified while working for us and then gone on to pursue a career in child care so we were quite proud to be one of the finalists for the Small Employer of the Year Award.

“We aim to carry on supporting our staff and hopefully we’ll be nominated again next year.”
