Monkhshouse of Spalding and Thurlby were champs of a football competition held at the Sir John Gleed School.
Thurlby won the small schools section of the Lincolnshire South East Sainsbury’s Games Years 5/6 contest and Monkshouse were the large school winners.
On a bitterly cold day, 12 small schools and 20 large ones took part in the competition, held at Spalding’s Sir John Gleed School.
The schools were split up into six pools (four large, two small), with thetop two from each group proceeding to a knockout stage to find the top three in each category.
Linchfield were second in the large schools, with Spalding Primary and Bourne Abbey A joint third.
In the small schools, Tydd St Mary were second and Baston and Ayscoughfee Hall joint third.
The standard of competition was really high, with many close games going to extra time and even to penalty shoot outs.
Thurlby and Monkshouse will represent the area in the county competition later in the month.
Special thanks to The Sir John Gleed School for hosting the event and providing post-16 students to referee the 80 matches.
