A mum-of-five from Spalding is set to raise money for a leading cancer charity when she runs the London Marathon on April 26.
Emma Scarborough (36), who lives in Donington, lost 4st 1lbs as a member of Slimming World before becoming a weight loss consultant herself.
She will raise funds for Cancer Research UK when she runs the 26.2 mile event as part of the Slimming World Marathon Team.
Having had some success with the Slimming World programme before and knowing she’d receive a warm welcome, Emma re-joined the Donington group after the birth of her daughter in 2012.
Emma lost 3.5lbs in her first week and within four weeks had lost half a stone.
“I felt amazing and I knew straight away I was in for the long haul. I couldn’t believe the amount of tasty, healthy meals I could have and I really enjoyed sharing recipes, tips and ideas with my new friends.
“I loved it so much that when I lost 3st to reach my target weight, I decided to become a consultant and run a group myself.”
As the weight dropped off and her confidence grew, Emma gradually increased her activity levels, and she took up running in 2013.
First she completed the nine-week ‘Couch to 5k’ programme, kept upping her miles week-by-week and ran her first half marathon in October.
Running to raise money for Cancer Research UK is important to Emma, who organised her own Slimming World does Race for Life event in Donington last year with 60 of her Slimming World members, raising an amazing £2,000 for Cancer Research UK.
