Holbeach Parish Council is asking drivers to help them keep the town attractive by not driving on the grass outside one of its schools.
Councillors were shocked when they found tyre marks on a grassed area outside William Stukeley Primary School where it is thought vehicles were driven on while children were being taken to and from school.
The council works hard to keep the grassed area looking nice and if it carries on like this, it will look like a ploughed fieldCoun Paul Gunn, Holbeach Parish Council
Coun Paul Gunn said: “There’s a little grassed roundabout outside the school and when people park by it, the only way of getting round their cars is to go on the grass itself.”
Coun Gunn hopes to hold talks with senior staff at the school after the half-term break after which it is hoped that parents and other drivers will be asked to use the main car park.
“I know it’s difficult for parents who want to get as close as they can to the school so they can pick their kids up,” Coun Gunn said.
“But the council works hard to keep the grassed area looking nice and if it carries on like this, it will look like a ploughed field.
“There’s a car park at the school but no one is using it and when the cars are parked at the side of the roundabout, you get people driving over the grassed verge.
“It has been quite wet recently, but there’s signage up asking people not to park or drive on the grass, so there’s no excuse.”
