Thomas Cowley High School in Donington is celebrating after the opening of a state-of-the-art maths classroom.
And it was a double celebration as new head of governors Simon Lilley officially opened the room.
Headteacher Martyn Taylor explained the need for the extra classroom: “Our own master builder, Dave Cox, has done a terrific job in creating this new classroom.
“He has done it in such a way as it blends in to its surroundings whilst at the same time enhancing them.
“We have the largest school population in the long history of the school and it is good to be able to give them more teaching space.”
Talking about the appointment of Mr Lilley, he added: “I am looking forward to working with him.
“I have already been impressed by the interest that he has shown in our day to day work and I am confident that he will help us to move the school forward.”
Mr Lilley has been on the school’s board of governors for 18 months and was delighted to be recently made chair.
Speaking at the opening of the classroom, he said: “It is a privilege to have been elected to the role and an honour to have been invited to open the new classroom.
“I am very much looking forward to working with the staff and students of Thomas Cowley.”
