BOYS and cooking – absolutely, they love it! That was the discovery at Spalding Grammar School when its new £500,000 project was unveiled.

TV star Karl Sergison of Sergi’s Deli in Spalding was invited to officially open the new complex, which incorporates a new 6th form study centre and coffee lounge, a food technology room, new staff room and atrium.

Karl promptly volunteered to work with students in the food technology room, preparing food for guests at that evening’s opening ceremony when a plaque was unveiled.

Deputy head teacher Pete Wasley said of the food technology room: “We can’t keep them out of there. Some of them are desperate to get into the food room and last week for the opening we had a group of Year 9 students in there who were so enthusiastic they didn’t want to go for a break. We’d have had 120 wanting to do it if we’d asked them.”
