It was back to Ancient Greek times for Year Two pupils at Ayscoughfee Hall School.

Sally Chester, Year Two teacher, said: “The day went really well, the children all dressed up and some of the girls’ hair – well, the parents really went to town.”

In the morning everyone designed and made their own Greek shields which came to good use after lunch when a battle with cardboard spears took place.

Special guest visitors Greek goddess Athena and mythological Andronicus (also known locally as Katie and Richard) came into the school to give a demonstration of Greek medicine.

Sally praised them for staying in character all day and said pupils loved acting out treatments from amputations to cataract and treating toothache.

Sally said: “Kayleigh’s mum made an amazing chocolate cake of Medusa with Haribo hair.
