Five students from University Academy Holbeach have received £1,000 scholarships to help them achieve academic success.

The Year 12 youngsters were chosen after being identified by teachers as having the potential to study at university.

Abigail King, Jake Ward, Matthew Castle, Nicole Baker and Patrycia Blichar were among 50 students to receive individual scholarships from the University of Lincoln, which are intended to help promising students focus on their academic work by covering associated costs of attending school or college, such as books, equipment and trasnport.

They are being paid in two instalments of £500, with the second payment dependent on successful completion of Year 12.

Many of the scholarship winners are teenagers who would become the first person in their family to study at university.

Lincoln University’s vice chancellor Prof Mary Stuart said: “We believe anyone with potential and determination to study at university should be able to do so, regardless of financial circumstances.”
