The name of a girl from Donington will be seen all over the country ... on the cab of a lorry driven by her proud dad, Carl.
Jessica Jane Ward (11) is a big fan of the charity Little People UK, set up four years ago to help people just like her, members of the dwarfism community.
Little People UK, whose patron is TV and film star Warwick Davis, has its logo featured on Carl’s cab alongside Jess’s name.
Pinchbeck firm CPT Distribution, specialists in temperature controlled food logistics, created the cab’s new livery after hearing about the struggles faced by Jess and her family.
CPT owner Keith Pick said: “It is a real pleasure to be able to do this for Jessica. We hope people will see this vehicle on its travels up and down the country, which will hopefully highlight the important work of the charity.”
Carl (42) drove his special cab to Thomas Cowley High School on Monday, when Jess saw it for the first time.
Carl said: “She is over the moon – she could not be happier.”
Jess’s mum, Laura, told us: “Her face was absolutely priceless when her dad picked her up at the school.
“I think it’s amazing. I am overwhelmed that the business would do this.”
Jess has had many health problems, which have involved ongoing treatment at hospitals in London, Nottingham and Sheffield, but she remains upbeat.
“We call her our little person with a massive personality,” said Laura. “You meet her once and you never forget her.”
Laura and Carl also have sons, Nathan (12) and Ashley (7), and they say Little People UK is a real help to Jess and the whole family.
CPT transport manager Paul James says everyone at the firm takes their hat off to the Ward family for the way they deal with the constant struggles with Jess’s condition and ongoing treatment.
