BINGO in the village hall, tomorrow at 7.30pm.


THE Nigel Creasey music evening due to be held tomorrow at the church hall has had to be cancelled.

REMEMBRANCE Day Service will be held on Sunday at St Mary’s and the Holy Rood at 10.30am.

TWO local charities pay out cash each year to eligible residents. The annual distribution will take place on Saturday, December 14, at 2pm at the Royal British Legion Hall. If you are over 70 years of age or a widow and have lived in Donington for at least seven years you will be entitled to a payment from these charities. If you think you may be eligible and are not on the present list, contact one of the clerks to the charities - Sue Inns, 01775 820055 or Louise Pearson, 01775 820627.

ANNUAL meeting of Donington and Quadring Royal British Legion is on Monday, November 25, 6.30pm, at the RBL Club in Malting Lane. This will be followed by the RBL Club AGM at 7.30pm. Anyone interested is welcome to attend.


ACT of Remembrance and wreath laying will take place at the war memorial on Sunday at 2pm followed by a Remembrance Service at the Baptist Church at 2.30pm. On Monday the two minutes’ silence will be observed at the war memorial at 11am.

Gedney Hill

REMEMBRANCE Service will be held in St John the Baptist Church, Whaplode Drove, at 10.55am on Sunday.

BOWLS presentation evening will take place on Saturday, November 16, 8pm, in the Memorial Hall. Entertainment will be by Sounds Familiar. Tickets are £10, including buffet, from John Riley (01406 330558).


BEETLE drive scheduled for Saturday, November 30, in the Public Hall, has been cancelled due to ill health.

WOMEN’S Institute meets on Tuesday in the Public Hall, 7.15pm, when the subject is “’Corsets, camis, swimsuits and smiles’ by Maggie Rampley.

The competition is for a dressed teddy bear and the bring and buy stall is a ‘girly’ theme. More details on 01775 750553

LADIES Circle meet in the Methodist Church on Thursday, November 14, at 7.30pm and will be on Christmas flowers. The meeting begins at 7.30pm and costs £3, including tea and biscuits. There will be no meeting in December.

SUNDAY afternoon tea and favourite hymns is in the Methodist Church on November 17 at 4pm.

REMEMBRANCE Parade in Holbeach takes place on Sunday. Those wishing to take part should muster at the South Holland Boxing Academy, Fleet Street (next the the Black Bull) by 2pm to move off by 2.05pm to arrive at the war memorial in All Saints’ churchyard by 2.15pm for the Act of Remembrance and laying of wreaths. From there the parade will move into church for the Remembrance Service. The parade will be led by Stamford Brass, thanks to the kind generosity of Holbeach Parish Council. The two minutes’ silence will be marked at the war memorial on Monday at 11am. All are welcome, but please be in position by 10.50am.

THIS Saturday and Sunday the Mothers’ Union is collecting for Boston Women’s Refuge. All contributions will be gratefully received.

HOLBEACH Christmas fayre takes place on December 8, 10am-4pm.The fayre has been extended to include Church Street, High Street from Market Hill to Limmings in Fleet Street. Visitors will be able to park in Park Road car park, Tesco, the Boxing Club in Fleet Street and other off road parking around the town. There will be a mixture of craft and farmers’ market stalls as well as community stalls, street entertainment, Santa’s Grotto, Punch and Judy and Radio Lincolnshire will be visiting. The Mansion House Hotel will also be open with a selection of craft stalls.

Holbeach Bank

ALL Saints’ Church autumn fair is on Saturday at the community centre, 10am-1pm. There will be stalls, raffle, games, cakes, books, bric-a-brac, ploughman’s lunches and refreshments.

MESSY Church at All Saints’ Church on Saturday (3-5pm) will focus on Remembrance. Families welcome, craft activities, songs, etc, ending with a shared tea.


SPALDING West Townswomen’s Guild meet on November 14 at St John’s Church lounge, Hawthorn Bank, at 2.15pm. The speaker will be Bryn Chappell from SADOS talking about ‘Putting on a show’. This is in place of the advertised speaker. New members and visitors welcome.

Weston Hills

VILLAGE Hall Committee meet on Tuesday at 8pm in the village hall.

THE bingo has had a date change and will not be this Saturday but now on Saturday, November 16, 7pm, in the village hall.

REMEMBRANCE Day Service is at 10.30am at St Bartholomew’s Church on Sunday.

Whaplode Drove

THIS Sunday the united Remembrance Service will begin at 10.55am at St John the Baptist Church. There will be Holy Communion, as usual, at 8am.

THE recent fundraising lunches for the orphanage in Bulgaria held in the Church Room raised £415.

Thanks to all who helped and supported this annual event. Peter Barnes, from Krasifaid, said: “Thank you to everyone who helped raise this wonderful amount of money. “It will be used to improve the quality of life for the children and staff at the home in Burzitsa, helping to bring more light, sunshine and fun to the youngsters.”
