From Crowland to Spalding
TOMORROW Crowland Wildlife Group present, CJ’S birds of prey. An illustrated talk by a father and daughter team who have given displays countrywide. They will bring along a varied selection of their birds. The event starts at 7.30pm in the library, in Hall Street. An entertaining evening with refreshments served and a raffle. THE Advent fair on Saturday and Sunday, December 6 and 7, 10am-4pm, will be held at St Mary Magdalene Church. There will be a carol Service at 4pm on the Sunday with raffle draw afterwards.
THERE will be an arts and crafts exhibition at St Mary Magdalene Church on Saturday and Sunday, November 22 and 23, 10am-4pm. Refreshments will be available.
CHAIRMAN, John Dennis, presided over a meeting of the Gosberton Relief in Need Charity. Christmas gifts will be given out at the Public Hall on Thursday, December 4, from 10.30am to 1pm and at St Gilbert and St Hugh’s Church Hall from 2pm to 3.30pm. All persons who receive the old age pension and living in Gosberton and the Clough and Risegate parishes will qualify. Representatives may collect for anyone unable to attend, but identity must be produced. These gifts must be collected between these hours, no exceptions will be made.

THERE is a wide assortment of books in a box on the table at the back of St Peter and St Paul’s Church. These are available to borrow.
PRESIDENT Christine Clark welcomed Women’s Institute members and visitors to the Public Hall for the November meeting. Results of the Make, Bake and Show Competition, held recently at Hubberts Bridge, were given. Gosberton members were congratulated as they received one first place, four second places and eight third places. Speaker, Terry Barnatt, gave an entertaining and informative talk, with pictures and sounds, of the local countryside. Jenny Pocock and Jean Baker provided refreshments and Chris Clark was lucky in the raffle. Members will be at St Peter and St Paul’s Church on November 27 to help decorate the WI tree in the Christmas tree festival. Surfleet Ladybirds have invited members to join them in a ten pin bowling evening in January. Guest speaker at the spring council meeting in March will be Paul Hayes, celebrity antiques expert.
As part of the 100 years celebration of the WI movement, Lincolnshire South will be holding an exhibition involving craft and flowers at Sleaford in September. All institutes are invited to send up to three entries for display. The lunch group will meet on Tuesday, November 25. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, December 9, and is the Christmas meeting, when Wendy Smith will be showing members the art of knotting. LINCS Fashions are hosting a fashion show and sale on behalf of Moulton Chapel Youth and community Centre on Tuesday, November 25, at 7.30pm at the community centre in Woodgate Road. All garments perfect - no seconds sold and top brand names. Entrance £2 on the door.
THE Christmas Miracle, a performance of the Nativity in song and tableau, is being performed by the choir of St Mary’s Church, on Thursday, December 18, at St Bartholomew’s Church, West Pinchbeck, at 7pm. Entry is free but voluntary donations in aid of church funds would be welcome.
GOLDSMITH Matt Powell of Crown Jewellers in Bourne, gave Women’s Institute members a fascinating talk on how he was trained by the best designer in Glasgow after visiting London, showing his designs and asking for an apprenticeship, before helping launch the family business. He now makes many pieces for top celebrities. During November members enjoyed visits to see the poppies at the Tower of London, a conducted tour of the BBC studios in London and the ballet in Nottingham. Due to a lot of interest, a second ipad class is being held. Christmas celebrations will be with the Ringstone Ringers at the December meeting. ST Norbert’s Catholic Church Christmas bazaar is on Saturday. The fair will be open between 12.30pm and 5pm and will host a wonderful selection of stalls and activities for the while family including cakes, preserves, arts and crafts, books, jewellery, tombola, games, sweets, face painting, glitter tattoos, refreshments, foot massage and Santa’s Grotto.
