From Donington to Whaplode Drove

Donington

ROLLER disco by Leo Promotions is in the community centre today. Beginner/family session 6-7.30pm; advanced skaters/12 years + 7.45-9pm. Each session is £3.80, skate hire £1.20.

TICKETS are now on sale for the ceilidh/barn dance with music by the Beltonas, on Saturday, September 21, 7.30pm, in the community centre. Tickets £6 including a ploughmans supper and are available from entertainment committee members Lauren Hartfil, Sandra Thacker, Karen Marshall and Michelle Allgood, also at Donington Chemist.

THERE will be a ‘Picnic in the Garden’ at the Old Vicarage, Park Lane, on Sunday, 2-5pm, featuring Kirton Brass Band. Adults £3 accompanied under 15s free; ring Carol on 01775 820248 for tickets or pay on the gate. Bring your own picnic and chairs. If wet it will be in the church.

Gosberton

THE next fun and fellowship at the Baptist Church is on Friday, 2-4pm, with coffee/tea and cakes and a selection of table games.

GOSBERTON Good Companions Club meet today in the Public Hall at 2pm, Next Tuesday the club is having a visit to Melton Mowbray. Usual pick up times.

DON’T forget the tower open day at St Peter and St Paul’s Church on Saturday from 10.30am to 4pm. Fee is £3 for adults and £1 for students and under 18s.

GOSBERTON and District Royal British Legion 75th anniversary concert takes place on Saturday, September 21, at 7.30pm in Quadring Church Hall, PE11 4PW. It will be given by the Banovallum Brass Band and tickets are £6 each from Gene Waterfall on 01775 840519 or 01775 750491 or from Debbie Reynolds on 01775 841585. Donations of raffle prizes are welcome. All proceeds for the Gosberton Royal British Legion.

Holbeach

THE annual Fenland Working Weekend event is being held on September 21 and 22 in the field off Damgate Road and is open to both working and static farm machinery displays with the attraction of enthusiasts being able to plough in the designated fields close by. There will be both trade and refreshment stands with free admission to spectators with the usual small donation asked of those wishing to take part in the ploughing section. Whaplode Drove

THANKS to all who helped and supported the recent garden fête, when £832.50 was raised for St John the Baptist Church.

THE newly refurbished Church Room will be officially opened by the Rt Hon John Hayes MP and the Rev Richard Morrison on Saturday, September 14. The local community and interested parties are invited to view the new facilities from 2-4pm, during which time complimentary refreshments will be served. If anyone wishes to hire the Church Room after this date, either for a family function, business event, educational or recreational purpose, contact Liz McRoberts on 01406 540892.
