VANDALS behind a “disrespectful” attack on a town flagpole on Armistice Day have been condemned by police.

The flagpole at Holbeach Community Centre in Fishpond Lane, Holbeach, was pulled down, bent and twisted around its base late on Friday evening.

Its Union Jack flag was also stolen in the attack.

PC Mary Glenwright, from Spalding Police Station, said: “Any act of criminal damage or theft to personal or community property is unacceptable but the removal of such a flag on Armistice Day is particularly disrespectful and has caused considerable upset to local people.”

Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward. Anyone with information should call Lincolnshire Police on the new non-emergency number 101.
