Three serving brothers from Deeping St James were photographed on home leave in 1916 for these newspapers.

They are (from left) Sgt Mayes, of the 6th Northants, Pte Albert Mayes and Pte Willie Mayes, both of whom were in the RFA 3rd Lincolnshire.

Mr Norman Y Clay (18) (right) had just been appointed assistant clerk (Paymaster’s Department) to HMS Pembroke. The former Moulton Grammar School pupil had won the Holland County Council Minor and Intermediate Scholarships.
