News had been received that Cpl J G Rodgers, known as Cocky, had been reported killed in action.

Cpl Rodgers was “extremely well-known” in the district, and had served ten years in the Militia and four years in the special reserve.

That week’s paper also reported that Sgt R Drinkall, of the 3rd Worcester Regiment, and a native of Sutterton, had been awarded the DCM for distinguished conduct at Neuve Chapelle, action in which his “last surviving friend” Sgt Hicks had died.
